Because the most important reason for the space program is human survival...

"The question to ask is whether the risk of traveling to space is worth the benefit. The answer is an unequivocal yes, but not only for the reasons that are usually touted by the space community: the need to explore, the scientific return, and the possibility of commercial profit. The most compelling reason, a very long-term one, is the necessity of using space to protect Earth and guarantee the survival of humanity."
William E. Burrows The Wall Street Journal, Feb. 3, 2003 [full story]

Welcome

The Alliance to Rescue Civilization (ARC) was first conceived by Robert Shapiro in his book Planetary Dreams: The Quest to Discover Life Beyond Earth (Wiley 1999). Shapiro's close colleague at New York University, William E. Burrows immediately saw the wisdom of ARC and became the leading proponent of the idea.
This website was designed to allow those who share Shapiro's and Burrows' vision to exchange information and ideas that will advance this important mission. Please review these pages. Be part of this effort by contributing relevant links and papers, providing financial support, and volunteering your expertise. Join this effort to help focus the human space program on its most important purpose, human survival.

The Survival Imperative: Using Space to Protect Earth, William E. Burrow's latest book is a comprehensive study of ways in which space can be used to protect the planet, from asteroid detection to home-grown dangers like WMD proliferation, pollution, and resource management. So much is happening so fast that our world now simply seams to roll over you if you dont move first. In all our preperations twoard new worlds and technics to get us there we run a danger of the super young need only apply. If you look all around more and more older workers are considered disposable now . We must be open to all the life skills people can bring to the table in multiple situations. Sure maybe Grandpa may not take an 8G lift off,,,,, but let us ask ourselves can we expect children who have barely managed to show up to a part time job or have never actualy even worked to run an major event .If you agree as I do, we must make the list of all the super over qualafied awsome type a personality retired or older workers that have the Right Stuff! Reality and a proven track record is hard to beat .

I am always looking for new programing on Direct TV. I have found a few things on the History channel. Not to long ago I saw a whole series of programs on Nostradamus, the Aztecs and 12/21/2012. They basically where saying that everyone agreed that SOMETHING MAJOR was going to happen in 2012, but the theories were a broad range of possibilities. From a major political upheaval to Apocalypse. I am not sure what I think the outcome might be. If any. Did any of you see this programing?

HumanSupremacist Is ARC environmentalist? 2 Oct 5 2009, 4:03 AM EDT by dgandrews

Are ARC and environmentalism compatible? Do we see the preservation of the 'mother' earth an essential component of assuring the survival of the civilization? Is it the civilization or the earth that we care about?
